You never quite know where it's going

At various points in their product history, Samsung has made use of what became affectionately known as ‘a butt robot’ to test the durability of their mobile devices.

It is a device that resembles the shape of the butt, often dressed in denim, and with a mobile device in the back pocket. A weight of 220 pounds (100 kilograms) is then pushed onto the phone to establish that if someone should sit down on it, it will survive the interaction and not do serious damage to the phone (especially the battery which may otherwise catch fire)

Other durability tests involve simulating a phone being dropped from different heights on to different surfaces, and simulating devices tumbling down stairs.
