Off the northern coast of Australia are a group of islands, the Tiwi Islands, formed of two larger and nine smaller islands. In the local Tiwi dialect, they’re called Ratuati Irara, which means ‘two islands’.

From September to March, with a little variability, the islands play home to “Hector the Convector”, a cumulonimbus thundercloud that forms at approximately 3pm nearly every day. There are regular gatherings on the Darwin beach on the mainland to take pictures.

Aerial shots show Hector virtually covering the two larger islands, and it can reach heights of 20km (66,000ft)
